This renovation project, located in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood in Montreal, Canada, transforms a compartmentalized single-family home into a [luminous, fluid sanctuary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portland-house-renovation) for a young family. At its core, the design blends [Japanese minimalism](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mori-house) with mid-century influences and Montreal warmth. As part of this project, Indee Design repositioned the staircase to expand the living space and establish a seamless connection between the ground floor and upper level. The Plateau Kyoto Residence now fully opens onto the garden, creating a soothing continuity between indoors and outdoors that serves as an end-of-day retreat. All furniture was custom-designed to precisely meet the occupants' needs while integrating seamlessly with the architecture — from a suspended bench in the extension that appears to float in front of the window to a wall alcove designed to house a bonsai.
