Here, 25 [plastic bottle homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/verovistas) are being built and will soon be made available for rent. Each house is crafted using around 7,800 plastic bottles, with each house comprising a bedroom, living room, bathroom and kitchen. Using [plastic bottles rather than traditional bricks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surf-block-maui) is a more durable, not to mention more cost-effective, method of building, says BBC News. It is estimated that one of these plastic bottle houses will cost only a third of the cost of a house made using bricks and concrete. What's more, the [eco-friendly homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/allspace-1) are also bullet-proof, due to the compacted sand that fills each bottle used in the building's construction. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 93% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Plastic Bottle Homes:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Expanding the use of plastic bottles in construction for more durable and cost-effective housing solutions. - **Green Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing and constructing environmentally friendly homes using sustainable materials. - **Bullet-proof Building Materials:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing new construction materials that provide both durability and security. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrating innovative materials and techniques into the construction industry to create more affordable and sustainable housing options. - **Plastics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new applications for plastic bottles and developing methods to make them a viable building material. - **Security:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Innovating in the security industry by developing materials and technologies that provide enhanced protection for buildings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Upcycled Building Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plaex-building-systems-inc.md) - [Plant-Based Plastic Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-pet-bottle.md) - [Plant-Based Soda Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-bottle.md) - [Plastic Bottle-Made Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caroline-chaptini.md) - [Fully Recyclable 3D-Printed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biohome3d.md) - [Plastic Bottle Lifejackets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bot-lifejacket.md) - [Recycled Plastic Floating Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mast.md) - [Plant-Based Beverage Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prototype-pet-bottle.md) - [Paper-Based Vodka Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-based-bottles.md)
