The electricity-free filter works by being attached onto any [washing machine drain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washing-machine-technology) where it will go to work trapping up to 98% of microfibers in drainage water. This prevents it from making its way into our environment, while the [replaceable filter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faucet-filter) can be sent back to the company once it's full. The microfiber filters are then recycled into new products to help give microplastics a new life as something functional. The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter is focused on a [circular economy functionality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-and-coolblue) to give consumers more control over their contributions to water contamination and prioritize sustainability. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.7/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 18% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Electricity-free Microfiber Filters:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter prevents clothing fibers from polluting waterways. - **Circular Economy Functionality:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter promotes sustainability by recycling the microfiber filters into new products. - **Prioritizing Water Contamination Solutions:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter gives consumers more control over preventing microfibers from entering the environment. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Appliances:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter can be attached to existing washing machines, offering a disruptive innovation opportunity in the home appliances industry. - **Sustainable Fashion:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter helps address the issue of microplastics in clothing fibers, presenting a disruptive innovation opportunity in the sustainable fashion industry. - **Waste Management:** The PlanetCare 2.0 microfiber filter's circular economy functionality presents a disruptive innovation opportunity in the waste management industry by recycling the filters into new products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Microplastic Washing Machine Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washing-machine-filter.md) - [Laundry Microfiber Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/less-microfiber-filter.md) - [Ocean-Friendly Laundry Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laundry-filter.md) - [Stackable Electricity-Free Water Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electricityfree-water-filter.md) - [Sustainable At-Home Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compostable-water-filters.md) - [Skin-Caring Water Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/filterbaby-2-0.md) - [Eco-Friendly Washing Machine Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washing-machine-technology.md) - [Free Standing Laundry Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eeva.md) - [Elegant Instant Water Filters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tappwater-ecopro-compact.md)
