Brooklyn-based design studio [Fort Standard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accessible-trail-maps) designed the unique and minimalist Planar side table. This idea first came to light when Fort Standard's Gregory Buntain encountered a thick piece of travertine material at a stone supplier's shop. This slab of material evoked Buntain's thoughts of the [Barcelona](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victoria-alberts-barcelona-collection) Pavillion by [Mies Van Der Rohe](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plus-collection-1) due to the travertine usage to construct the walls and benches there. The material became the main spotlight of the project, with the goal in mind to create a piece where the travertine would shine.

The material's thickness is what formulates the entire table structure, with the final result of three intersecting plans to serve a function while delivering structure. The Planar side table is comprised of two stone "tenons" that intersect at the top, instead of having just one to create perfect squares.
