# Shelf-Like Electrical Outlets The Placed Socket Provides a Little Ledge for Resting Your Phone By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-12-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/placed-socket References: [red-dot.sg](http://www.red-dot.sg/en/online-exhibition/concept/?code=1041&y=2013&c=17&a=0) & [english.nit.net.cn](http://english.nit.net.cn/) In some rooms, the furniture simply is not arranged in such a way that offers an elevated surface close to a power point. The Placed Socket has been designed to serve these particular outlets by providing a small shelf on which you can set down your [battery-deprived smartphone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-charging-adapter). Designed by a team from the Ningbo Institute of Technology at [Zhejiang University](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/novara) in China, this concept is a clever solution to the annoyance of having your handset dangling from its cord or having to rest it on the floor. What this 2013 Red Dot design is is a socket plate that screws right into the wall. It integrates a hinged cover, and with it opened or closed, the Placed Socket allows the easy insertion of [charger plugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/powerbug). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Smart Furniture:** The trend of integrating innovative features into furniture, like built-in electrical outlets, provides convenience and efficiency for consumers. - **Compact Charging Solutions:** The trend of designing compact and versatile charging solutions, such as the Placed Socket, addresses the need for easily accessible power sources in various spaces. - **Multifunctional Design:** The trend of creating products with multiple functionalities, like the Placed Socket's combination of a socket and a small shelf, offers practicality and space-saving benefits. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The furniture industry can leverage the smart furniture trend to create innovative pieces that cater to the changing needs of consumers and their increasing reliance on technology. - **Electrical Equipment Manufacturing:** The electrical equipment manufacturing industry can capitalize on the compact charging solutions trend by developing innovative charging devices that provide convenience and portability. - **Home Improvement Retail:** The home improvement retail industry can benefit from the multifunctional design trend by offering a wide range of products that combine practical functionalities, meeting the growing demand for space-saving solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Outlet-Mounted Device Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tech-charger-dock.md) - [Bed-Like Technology Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foam-wireless-charger.md) - [Intentional Disconnection Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/share-power.md) - [Tech-Charging Book Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haaase-liesma-bookshelf.md) - [Power-Providing Smartphone Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solove-power-bank.md) - [Decorative Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tricharge-wireless-charger-concept.md) - [Design-Conscious Power Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-strip-concept.md) - [Angled Smartphone Charger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-charger-concept.md) - [Modular Power Strip Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodes.md)
