# Pointillistic Sculptures Daniel Arsham's Pixel Cloud Looks Like it Will Evaporate on Sight By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixel-cloud References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/2011/04/07/pixel-clouds/) & [danielarsham](http://www.danielarsham.com) I'm always fascinated with the different materials that artists are innovative enough to use to create something like the Pixel Cloud. This [dreamy smokelike sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ralph-pucci-pure-exhibition) is made out of hundreds of painted ping-pong balls. Conceived and created by New York City-based artist Daniel Arsham, the Pixel Cloud seems to be a continuation from his ping-pong apartment, the [Snarkitecture Box](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snarkitecture-box-box-residence). The Pixel Cloud is part of his Three Dimension portfolio series. The ethereal, whimsical Pixel Cloud comes in two different forms: a muted gray-hued one and a subtle maroon one. Although the installation looks like it may just evaporate on sight or float away, I'm sure that you'll be able to see it for some time yet. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Ping-pong Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of unconventional materials, such as ping-pong balls, in creating artworks and sculptures. - **Ephemeral Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop installations that give the illusion of evanescence or floating, adding an ethereal and whimsical element to the experience. - **Three Dimensional Portfolios:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create portfolio series that focus on three-dimensional artworks, showcasing different techniques and materials. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embrace unconventional materials and techniques to push the boundaries of traditional art and sculpture. - **Installation Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with ephemeral installations that challenge the perception of space and create immersive experiences. - **Fine Arts Education:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate unconventional materials and multidimensional approaches in fine arts education to inspire creativity and expand the possibilities of artistic expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Artful Anime-Blending Split Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/split-bust.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Deconstructed Eroded Soccer Balls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deconstructed-soccer-ball.md) - [Wooden Light-Hearted Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-sculpture.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Artful Garden Inflatable Spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-is-air.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md)
