STARH, the Bulgarian architecture firm led by Svetoslav Stanislavov, has conceived the [Pine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pine-island-cottages) House near Varna as a project that fundamentally redefines the relationship between a dwelling and its forested site.

The Pine House is carefully placed within a dense woodland. The structure is elevated on steel piles to float above the forest floor and is meticulously [woven between existing trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sadowski-house), some of which stand less than a meter from the walls. The formal expression is deliberately ascetic — a monolithic composition of two simple volumes clad in dark, muted matte surfaces that harmonize with the surrounding palette of tree trunks and shadows. Generous glazing and a system of perforated sliding panels further blur the boundaries, as the glass reflects the forest like a mirror while the screens, when closed, filter light to mimic the dappled quality of sunlight through foliage.
