# Ceramic Cushion Salvers The Pillow Serving Dish Makes the Tiny Item on Top Look Like Such a Treat By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-03-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pillow-serving-dish References: [projeqt](http://projeqt.com/maijapuoskari/pillow/l) & [maijapuoskari](http://maijapuoskari.com/) The Pillow Serving Dish was inspired by the fancy hotel custom of placing chocolates on guests' beds. The notion is that even the tiniest of treats is often appreciated as a gift in such a context. Maija Puoskari decided to bring this idea out of the bedroom and into the culinary environment. The artist molds these pillow platters out of [white porcelain material](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monte-porcelain), sculpting them with all sorts of folds, indentations and puckering to realistically emulate the look of fabric with cotton stuffing underneath. The squared bolster looks perfectly plushy with a middle that's slightly sunken. This central surface functions as a [shallow bowl](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caviar-kaspia), enabling you to arrange all sorts of edibles in small to medium-sized portions. The Pillow Serving Dish would make quite a [novel fruit bowl](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-serving-board) and centerpiece. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Ceramic Cushion Salvers:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create unique and visually appealing serving dishes using ceramic materials that mimic fabric textures. - **Pillow Serving Dish:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop creative and functional serving dishes inspired by everyday objects to enhance the dining experience. - **Fabric-inspired Tableware:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design tableware with sculpted folds, indentations, and puckering to mimic the appearance of fabric, providing a unique and artistic dining experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Tableware:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate innovative design and materials into the tableware industry to create visually appealing and functional dining experiences. - **Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate unique and whimsical serving dishes into the hospitality industry to enhance guest experiences and create memorable moments. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Expand the range of home decor products by introducing fabric-inspired tableware that adds an artistic touch to dining spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-of-tangible-spaces.md) - [Modular Serving Dishes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-serving-dish.md) - [Handmade Dessert Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carolina-k.md) - [Aquatic Plant-Inspired Kitchenware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lilypad-cake-stand.md) - [Creative Dipping Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dip-sea.md) - [Luxurious Patterned Ceramic Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patterned-ceramic-plates.md) - [Elegant Snack Platter Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hors-doeuvres-set.md) - [Artsy Serving Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecoresin-accented-cheese-and-charcuterie-serving-boards.md) - [Origami-Inspired Porcelain Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita.md)
