# Stone-Like Suspended Lights Pietro by Matteo Ugolini is Inspired by an Unbreakable Bond By Meghan Young | Published 2014-04-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pietro-by-matteo-ugolini References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/04/06/pietro-by-matteo-ugolini-for-karman/) & [karmanitalia.it](http://www.karmanitalia.it/en/collezioni/pietro/) Pietro by Matteo Ugolini is a deceptively simple light fixture. First of all, the lampshade resembles the smooth surface of a stone. Secondly, it emits a soft light that provides a serene ambiance in the room it is meant to illuminate. Yet this simplicity is deceptive because it is actually made up of two fixtures that are linked together by the same cord. Created for Italian lighting manufacturer Karman, Pietro by Matteo Ugolini has a bittersweet existence. As is written on the company's website, "Two stones linked by a thread representing that natural link, the only one and special binding two persons which…despite the distance from each other will remain forever." One of the stones is anchored to the ground in order to keep the other one suspended in the air. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Stone-like Suspended Lights:** Creating light fixtures that resemble stones and are suspended in the air, providing a unique and serene ambiance. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting Manufacturing:** Opportunity for lighting manufacturers to explore and create stone-like suspended lights for residential and commercial spaces. - **Interior Design:** Designers can incorporate stone-like suspended lights into their projects to add a natural and tranquil element to the space. - **Home Decor:** Home decor retailers can offer stone-like suspended lights as unique and artistic lighting options for customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structural Two-Part Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luno-lamp.md) - [Volcanic Stone Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-lava-lamps.md) - [Structural Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legato.md) - [Minimally Designed Ethereal Pendants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass.md) - [Murano-Inspired Geometric Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gio-chandelier-lamp.md) - [Volcanic Rock Light Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meta-parallel-black-collection.md) - [Metaphorically Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bilanciato-pendants.md) - [Ethereal Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peter-kovacsy.md) - [Perforated LED Table Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lume.md)
