# Surreally Photorealistic Paintings This Photographic Art Depicts Haunting, Impossible Scenes By Charlotte Joyce Kidd | Published 2015-10-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photographic-art References: [juxtapoz](http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/broken-realism-of-eckart-hahn) & [eckarthahn](http://eckarthahn.com/) This series of [surreal photographic art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeffrey-deitch-art-gallery) by Eckart Hahn challenges the viewer's perception of reality. Hahn's style of painting makes his art look almost like photography; the shading and precise perspective communicates a sense of physical reality to the artist's audience. But the photographic art, once it's reeled the viewer in with this false realism, shatters their concept of what can and should happen in a [photographic scene](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhinoceros-gallery1). Horses have two tails and no head. [Pets are half-cat, half-dog](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawmypet), split directly through the center line of the animal. A dog gets a great head scratch and a tummy rub from multiple disembodied hands. It's a world that could almost be real, but that no one wants to live in. By virtue of trying to pass itself off as normal, it's threatening without being explicitly scary. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.8/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Surreal Photorealism:** Opportunity to explore creating photorealistic artwork that challenges viewers' perception of reality. - **Shattered Realism:** Opportunity to create artwork that breaks the boundaries of conventional photography and explores impossible scenes. - **Uncanny Art:** Opportunity to evoke a sense of unease and intrigue by blending the familiar and the strange in artwork. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Fine Art:** Opportunity for fine artists to push the boundaries of photorealism and create captivating and thought-provoking pieces. - **Photography:** Opportunity for photographers to experiment with digital manipulation techniques and create visually striking surreal photographs. - **Digital Art:** Opportunity for digital artists to employ advanced editing software to produce visually stunning and uncanny artwork. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Colossal AI Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-artwork.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md)
