In a [photo series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1) that may have Zoolander asking "is this a city for ants?" the Melbourne-based photographer has skillfully made use of the [tilt-shift technique](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tilt-shift-collection), which gives the scenic shots of city streets and monumental landmarks the appearance that they have suddenly shrunk down to an incredibly minuscule size. Rather than the traditional photo landscapes of cities, which are of proper proportions, it gives you a new and fresh perspective and makes you feel as if you are able to easily pick up these buildings and cars and play around with them. In a style that he dubs a "playful effect," photographer Ben Thomas infuses a lighthearted approach to highlight the beauty and grandiose quality of some of the most [iconic cities in the world](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/all-within-the-detour). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Tilt-shift Photography:** Explore the trend of using tilt-shift technique to create miniaturized cityscapes, offering a unique perspective for photographers and viewers alike. - **Playful Perspective:** Discover the trend of infusing lightheartedness into photography, creating a whimsical and imaginative experience for viewers. - **Unconventional Landscapes:** Explore the trend of capturing cities in unconventional ways, challenging traditional notions of cityscape photography. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** Photography industry can leverage tilt-shift technique and playful perspectives to offer unique and creative visual experiences to clients. - **Tourism:** By capturing unconventional landscapes, the tourism industry can attract visitors by showcasing cities in a new and exciting way. - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can find inspiration in the trend of unconventional landscapes, using it to create imaginative and imaginative works. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Miniaturized Product Art Photographs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-muji.md) - [Miniature Artful Hip-Hop Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/danny-cortes.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Public Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith.md) - [AI Travel Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epic-ai-travel-photos.md) - [Stacked Dynamic Light Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tilt-shift-collection.md) - [Warped Georgian Townhouse Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees.md)
