'Darkr' works by providing users with a look at their camera roll from a negative point of view. This allows users to start with a bare photo before performing a series of edits over it to get the best effect possible. The 'Darkr' photo developing app can be used to perform a series of edits including rotate, crop, burn, dodge, blur and even image tone. This enables users to mimic the effects of photography capabilities of the past without sacrificing the convenience of their smartphone. The 'Darkr' app only produces photos that are [black and white](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vsco-capture). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Velvet-focused Photo Apps:** Opportunity for developing photo editing apps that simulate the look and feel of traditional darkroom velvet prints. - **Analog Aesthetic Filters:** Opportunity for creating photo editing apps that apply analog-style filters and effects to digital images for a nostalgic look. - **Retro Photography Revival:** Opportunity to tap into the growing interest in retro-style photography by offering apps that recreate the process and experience of darkroom techniques. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography Apps:** Opportunity for developers to create innovative photography apps that offer unique and nostalgic editing experiences for users. - **Digital Imaging:** Opportunity to develop new software and tools that bring the aesthetic qualities of traditional darkroom techniques to digital imaging. - **Creative Software:** Opportunity for software developers to cater to the demand for retro-inspired photo editing tools, providing users with a range of unique filters and effects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vintage Photo Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrova.md) - [Vintage Photo Camera Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moodcamera.md) - [Single-Use Photography Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/later-cam.md) - [Image-Enhancing AI Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/myheritage-1.md) - [Camera-Mounted Photo Digitizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photo-digitizer.md) - [Analog Photo Simulators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vint.md) - [Photographer-Inspired Photo Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leica-lux-app.md) - [Instant Mini Darkroom Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinsta-instant-camera.md) - [App-Connected Upcycled Film Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digi-swap.md)
