The oral care device works by being filled with a spool of floss before positioning just the right amount into the accompanying holder at the top. The used floss is then deposited into the [refill chamber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lifelong-deo-20) and can be sent back to the company for recycling to keep it out of the environment. The conceptual 'Phloss' oral care device is the design work of Charlie Boyle and is the winner of the Joseph Joseph Brilliantly Useful Design Award at the New Designers Awards 2020. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Oral Care:** The 'Phloss' device offers a sustainable alternative to conventional dental floss, addressing environmental concerns. - **Product Recycling:** The 'Phloss' incorporates a refill chamber for used floss, creating an opportunity for companies to implement recycling initiatives. - **Efficient Floss Usage:** With its mechanism to dispense the right amount of floss, the 'Phloss' promotes efficient usage, potentially sparking innovation in oral care products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Dental Care:** The 'Phloss' device disrupts the dental care industry by introducing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional flossing methods. - **Waste Management:** The recycling feature of the 'Phloss' device opens avenues for the waste management industry to collaborate with oral care manufacturers. - **Product Design:** The 'Phloss' device's innovative floss dispenser mechanism presents opportunities for design innovation within the consumer products industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Electric Flossers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flaus.md) - [Streamlined Flossing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dental-hygiene1.md) - [Compact Pen-Like Teeth Flossers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morph-floss-pen.md) - [Auto-Restringing Flossing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qicobay-c1.md) - [Expanding Dental Flosses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expanding-dental-floss.md) - [3D-Printed Whole Mouth Flossers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blizzflosser.md) - [Sustainable Dental Flosses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silk-expanding-dental-floss.md) - [Dual-Purpose Oral Care Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-oral-care-kit.md) - [3-in-1 Electric Flossers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slate-electric-flosser.md)
