The astrophotographer was lucky enough to witness a [bioluminescence effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-in-the-dark-water-bottle) in the Gippsland Lakes in Australia. Produced by microorganisms called Noctiluca scintillans, this striking and real [blue aura](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-collection-1) captured in these images is a natural defense mode to alert other algae of danger. These photographs are surreal because of the intensity of the blue color and the gorgeous [starred sky](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/evening-sky). Hart explains for the site My Modern Met the photo series, "It was during a summer camp program for Camp Cooinda, so my friends on the leadership team and I had a great time in the evenings playing in the water and experimenting with photographic ideas." Forget Photoshop or artificial lighting! These photographs by Phil Hart remind viewers that nature is a true source of beauty and art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Bioluminescence Photography:** Capturing mesmerizing bioluminescent phenomena through photography presents opportunities to showcase the wonders of nature. - **Natural Defense Mechanisms:** Studying and understanding natural defense modes, such as bioluminescence, can lead to innovative solutions in various industries, such as security and communication. - **Nature-inspired Art:** Exploring the beauty and art in nature, like the surreal blue aura captured by Phil Hart, can inspire creativity and innovative approaches in the art industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography:** The photography industry can benefit from the growing interest in bioluminescence phenomena photography and associated equipment. - **Environmental Science:** Studying bioluminescent microorganisms can provide valuable insights into the natural world, aiding environmental scientists in conservation efforts and understanding ecosystems. - **Tourism:** The tourism industry can leverage unique natural phenomena like bioluminescence to attract travelers and create memorable experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Glow-in-the-Dark Sushi Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-in-the-dark-sushi-bar.md) - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Glowing Water Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glowyld-collection.md) - [Orb Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mangrove-island.md) - [Northern Lights Skyr Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/northern-lights-skyr-kit.md) - [Naturally Blue Absinthe Spirits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/absinthia-absinthe-bleue.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Indoor Gardening Glowing Petunias](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firefly-petunia.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md)
