# Crayon-Embedded Consoles The Phant Chair Incorporates Spaces for Kids to Stash Colored Pencils By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-10-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phant-chair References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/10/08/sit-and-sketch-for-kids/) & [jakobsendesign](http://jakobsendesign.com/) The Phant Chair is a piece of furniture that endearingly embodies the notion of an organized mess. Designed as a [stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/totto-step), the object functions most naturally as a craft table, encouraging its young users to tidy up their art-making implements in a way that certainly isn't typical. Martin Jakobsen created four rounded wooden legs that support a timber tabletop. There are no drawers or cabinets in this item; however, long and narrow grooves have been cut into the surface. These are just the right size for [pencil crayons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clever-school-desk1) to be slipped inside to lie flush with the smooth seat. Facing every which way, the shallow slots accommodate six separate utensils, which suffice to provide a child with a spectrum of hues with which to doodle. Just make sure that there is paper available near the Phant Chair. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Alpha - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Organized Mess:** The trend of incorporating organized chaos in design, like the Phant Chair, can disrupt traditional notions of tidiness and organization. - **Functional Craft Tables:** The trend of furniture that doubles as craft tables provides a space-saving solution and encourages creativity. - **Hidden Storage Solutions:** The trend of incorporating hidden storage solutions, such as the grooves in the Phant Chair, allows for clutter-free spaces while still keeping essential items easily accessible. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore incorporating hidden storage solutions and functional design elements to adapt to changing consumer needs. - **Children's Products:** The children's products industry can capitalize on the trend of organized mess and create products that encourage creativity and organization. - **Stationery:** The stationery industry can innovate by creating unique storage solutions and functional tools for art and craft supplies. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Ergonomic Child Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plogic-chair.md) - [Dedicated Student Storage Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kids-furniture-design.md) - [Textured Pine Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crayon-pine.md) - [Development Childhood Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-and-chair-set.md) - [Transforming Child Stool Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipflap-childrens-chair.md) - [Imaginative Pared-Back Art Supplies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woset.md) - [Antitheft Storage Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/afford-chair.md) - [Kid-Designed Sculptural Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galerie-philia.md) - [Puzzle-Inspired Kids Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palipeli.md)
