# Bowling Pin Monsters Peter Nordstrom Creates Alien Sculptures with Sports Gear By Courtney Scharf | Published 2012-05-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peter-nordstrom References: [obviouswinner](http://www.obviouswinner.com/obvwin/2012/5/24/aliens-prometheus-bowling-pin-carving-sculpture.html) & [futantshadow.deviantart](http://futantshadow.deviantart.com/) Using bowling pins as his unlikely canvas, artist Peter [Nordstrom](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lu-n-and-bruce-lee) creates amazingly intricate [alien-like monster creatures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu). As frightening as they are impressive, photos of Nordstrom's work are making their way around the blogosphere. The sculptures are relatively tiny, but pack a huge punch. Almost resembling a rock-like substance, the sculptures are decidedly bizarre, but definitely impressive. It's almost impossible to imagine the pieces in their original state, as you wouldn't want to put these masterpieces in the line of a speeding bowling ball. Inspired by the Prometheus, this work tells a dire tale with a strong cautionary message. It takes quite a bit of time to take in all of the detail of the piece, because the artist has fit a lot of details into one sculpture. Far from understated, Nordstom's re-imagined [bowling pin art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bowling-shoe-1) is mind-boggling and magnetically intriguing. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Intricate Sculptures:** Discover the trend of creating detailed and complex sculptures using unconventional materials like bowling pins, opening up opportunities for unique artistic expressions. - **Unconventional Canvas:** Explore the trend of artists utilizing unexpected objects like bowling pins as a canvas, showcasing innovative ways to repurpose everyday items. - **Bizarre Artwork:** Witness the rise of bizarre and captivating artwork that challenges traditional notions of beauty and creativity, creating disruptive opportunities for artists to push boundaries. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** The art industry can capitalize on the trend of intricate sculptures and unconventional canvases, providing artists with new materials and techniques to explore and attract a wider audience. - **Crafts and DIY:** The crafts and DIY industry can tap into the trend of bizarre artwork, offering enthusiasts unique materials and tools to create their own unconventional masterpieces. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can embrace the trend of unconventional canvas art, introducing innovative and eye-catching pieces that appeal to consumers looking for distinctive and statement-making decor items. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Insect-Inspired Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-bronze-sculptures.md) - [Film-Inspired Bowling Alleys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eastside-bowl.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Miniature Bowling Toy Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-n-bowl.md) - [Human Torso-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lene-bdker.md) - [Anamorphic Fuzzy Glowing Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alien-vases.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Sophisticated Upcycled Home Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculptures.md) - [Creature-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pink-robots-won.md)
