The PBF was started in 2002 by Nicholas Gurewitch. It was a runaway success and has even made it into hardcover with the book The Trial of Colonel Sweeto, a [hardcover collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illustrated-bookmarks) from [Dark Horse Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crkd-hellboy). These cartoon strips come in varying forms and are full of sarcasm, horrible things, low morals, and aliens. They’re right up my alley. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Humor](https://www.trendhunter.com/humor) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Irreverent Funnies:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the realm of dark humor and unconventional comic strips. - **Sarcasm and Satire:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the creation of sarcastic and satirical content in various forms, such as cartoons and comics. - **Hardcover Collections:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the production and distribution of hardcover collections of comic strips and cartoons. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Publishing:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the publishing industry to embrace and promote irreverent and unconventional comic strips. - **Entertainment:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the entertainment industry to develop new platforms for showcasing sarcastic and satirical content. - **Comics and Graphic Novels:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the comics and graphic novels industry by exploring new formats and styles to cater to a diverse audience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mind-Bending Graphic Novels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incal.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Culinary Comedian Cookbooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foodheim-a-culinary-adventure.md) - [Curated Book Directories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bizarre-bookshelf.md) - [Gross Trading Card Cookbooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-garbage-pail-kids-cookbook.md) - [Comedic NFT Artwork Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mic-drop-collection.md) - [Cartoonish NFT Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/i-like-you-youre-weird.md) - [Cheekily Creative Bookmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illustrated-bookmarks.md) - [Humorous Parenting Guides](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eat-pray-cry.md)
