# Orbo Perpetual Motion Machine or Pie in the Sky? By Ben Preiss | Published 2007-07-09 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perpetual-motion-or-pie-in-the-sky References: [thestar](http://www.thestar.com/News/article/233540) & [steorn](http://www.steorn.com/) A small Irish company, Steorn, is competing for world class chutzpah by having taken out a full page ad in The Economist challenging scientists to test their claims to have invented a perpetual motion machine. Which is to scientists, pretty much crazy talk. Like prove that I don't have a goose that lays golden eggs. Basically a perpetual motion machine means free energy, or energy from nothing. This is a no go from a physics point of view, a God machine. They have sunk a lot of money into the Orbo, thats what they call their machine. Have they all kissed the Blarney Stone? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Perpetual Motion Machine:** New innovations in perpetual motion machines may lead to breakthroughs in renewable energy sources. - **Free Energy:** Developments in free energy technology could potentially disrupt traditional energy industries. - **Alternative Energy Sources:** Continued advancements in alternative energy sources could lead to a more sustainable future. ### Who This Affects Most - **Energy:** Disruptive innovation in perpetual motion machines and free energy technology could significantly impact the energy industry. - **Renewable Energy:** Innovation in perpetual motion machines and free energy technology may shift focus towards renewable energy sources. - **Scientific Research:** With the ongoing debate over perpetual motion machines, there may be disruptive opportunities for scientific research to explore alternative energy sources. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Regenerative Drive Mechanisms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mag-drive.md) - [Wireless Charging Innovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-powers.md) - [Gasoline-Producing Prototype Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aircela.md) - [Unique Timekeeping Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unique-timekeeping-device.md) - [Portable Wind Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Portable-Wind-Generator.md) - [Kinetic Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-machine.md) - [Eco Oceanic Energy Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waveline-magnet-concept-design.md) - [Audacious Electric Supercars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-supercars.md) - [Autonomous Solar-Powered Watches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exoskeleton-solar-watches.md)
