# Viral Bird-Filmed Footage This Video Shows a Falcon's Extraordinary Filming of a Penguin Colony By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-01-25 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-colony References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/penguins-falcon-egg-cam) & [newsfeed.time](http://newsfeed.time.com/2014/01/20/falcon-steals-camera-accidentally-records-stunning-aerial-footage-of-penguin-colony/) It seems that [unhatched egg cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/egg-flights) may be the best way to get 'an in' with nature and a clique-like penguin colony. Or at least that was the case with this [viral video](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switzerland-is-fake) blowing up of a prank run by a team of researchers and video crew members for a [BBC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfie-booth1) program at a penguin colony. Using a striated caracara (the scavenger of the falcon family) as prey for the prank, the team hooked the falcon by using an egg camera -- camouflaged as a rockhopper penguin egg. The falcon falls for it and snatches his egg and flies off capturing stunning aerial views of a penguin colony below. The BBC program will be getting attention, not for its actual footage but for being the program behind the first video to be filmed by a bird. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Pranks](https://www.trendhunter.com/pranks) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Unconventional Filming Techniques:** The use of unhatched egg cameras and bird-filmed footage opens up opportunities for unconventional and immersive filming techniques in various industries. - **Nature-inspired Surveillance:** Bird-filmed footage demonstrates the potential of using animals as surveillance devices, inspiring innovations in security and surveillance industries. - **Creative Pranks and Viral Marketing:** The success of the prank using a falcon and egg camera highlights the potential for creative pranks and viral marketing campaigns in the entertainment and advertising industries. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Film and Television:** The use of bird-filmed footage presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the film and television industry for capturing unique perspectives and enhancing storytelling. - **Security and Surveillance:** This unconventional filming technique can disrupt the security and surveillance industry by offering alternative, nature-inspired surveillance solutions. - **Entertainment and Advertising:** The success of the viral video prank demonstrates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the entertainment and advertising industry through creative and unconventional marketing campaigns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [360-Degree Camera Bird Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdfy-feeder-vista.md) - [Falcon-Inspired Aerial Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-falcon.md) - [Carrier Pigeon Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/project-pigeon.md) - [Animal-Perspective Video Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/imaging-system-1.md) - [Hummingbird Camera Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hum-bloom.md) - [Smart Hummingbird Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/feathersnap-hummingbird-feeder.md) - [Dual-Camera Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdfy-nest.md) - [AI-Powered Bird Feeder Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-bird-feeders.md) - [App-Extended Smart Birdfeeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-birdfeeder.md)
