# Sketchy Seedlings Pencil Plant Sculptures Draw the Viewer In By Alex Scott | Published 2010-01-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencil-plant-sculptures References: [studiomanx](http://studiomanx.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11) & [jennifermaestre](http://www.jennifermaestre.com) I think the only “art” I created with a pencil was creating miniature slingshots to fire rubber bands. I was pretty proud of those. Jennifer Maestre’s Pencil Plant Sculptures however are a few notches above my creations, designing entire replicas of plants out of pencil particles. Using mainly the tips of pencils, she gives the plants curves and forms that seem impossible to produce. These Pencil Plant Sculptures will make you put down the [tracing paper](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti) and start cutting up some [pencil crayons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woset) to create some true art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Pencil Sculpture:** Opportunity for artists to explore a unique medium of creating sculptures using pencil particles. - **Replica Art:** Emerging trend of creating realistic replicas of objects using unconventional materials like pencil crayons. - **Curved Designs:** Innovative approach to design that challenges the limitations of materials and creates seemingly impossible forms and curves. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can incorporate pencil sculpture techniques to create unique and eye-catching artworks. - **Craft and DIY:** Craft enthusiasts can explore the creation of replica art using unconventional materials like pencil crayons. - **Design and Architecture:** Designers and architects can use curved designs and unconventional materials like pencil particles to create innovative and visually striking structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sprout-worlds-plantable-pencils.md) - [Unique Writing Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphite-paintbrush-writing-instrument.md) - [Festive Plantable Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantable-pencils.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Stone-Grip Conical Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-sphere.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Nature-Inspired Design Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-2.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md)
