The series of illustrations are not chaotic in their detail, but are intricate in the imagery they do have and are able to evoke a sense of melancholy in those using viewing them. Each of the scenes appear to be in a suspended reality, with houses and people carrying on their daily tasks in a world that seems to only partially exist. The faces of the people in these pencil illustrations are all blurred or obstructed -- if they exist at all. These [pencil drawings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulse-pen) reveal an incomplete world in a time period that is difficult to determine, ensuring that people viewing them are unable to look away. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Somber Illustration Trend:** The trend of creating somber illustrations that evoke a sense of melancholy and feature an incomplete world, provides an opportunity for artists to explore emotions and convey messages in a unique way. - **Suspenseful Imagery Trend:** The trend of creating imagery that evokes a sense of suspense and seems to exist in a suspended reality could be used by writers and filmmakers to create impactful stories and set an eerie tone. - **Blurred Identity Trend:** The trend of obscuring or blurring the identities of people in artwork or media provides an opportunity for artists and advertisers to create a sense of mystery or anonymity. ### Who This Affects Most - **Fine Art Industry:** Artists in the fine art industry can explore the trend of somber illustrations and experiment with creating poignant and thought-provoking work. - **Entertainment Industry:** Writers and filmmakers in the entertainment industry can utilize the trend of suspenseful imagery to captivate audiences and tell captivating stories that leave an impact. - **Advertising Industry:** Advertisers in the advertising industry can use the trend of blurring identity in their campaigns to create intrigue and start conversations around their product or service. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Writing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-pencils.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [AI Line Drawing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencilify-ai.md) - [Brazilian Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightness-tension.md) - [Stone-Grip Conical Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-sphere.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md)
