# Hot Spot Finder Pen Detects Wifi By Bianca | Published 2008-01-23 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pen-wifi References: [chinavasion](http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/wifi-pen-hot-spot-finder/) If you're not quite comfortable wearing a [Wifi detecting Tshirt](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wi-fi-detecting-t-shirt), then this $8 gadget might be the next best thing! The nifty [Wi-Fi Detecting Pen](http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/wifi-pen-hot-spot-finder) is able to sense wireless hot spots, and has four LEDs that light up like a bar to indicate the strength of the signal. It can inform you of Wi-Fi from up to 30 feet of a hot spot. It runs on two button cell batteries and yes, it even writes. It beats busting out the laptop, finding a plug, setting it up, only to find out there's no wireless service and having to get up and set up over again. The only problem I see with these types of gadgets is that you're unable to detect whether or not they're security enabled. Having your device inform you there is webability (it's not a real word, but it should be) in the air is pointless if you can't make use of it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/internet) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Wireless Hot Spot Detection:** The Wi-Fi Detecting Pen demonstrates the trend of wireless hot spot detection, offering a convenient way to find and assess the strength of Wi-Fi signals. - **Portable Wi-fi Sensing Gadgets:** The rise of portable Wi-Fi sensing gadgets like the Wi-Fi Detecting Pen showcases the trend of compact and handy devices for identifying nearby Wi-Fi signals. - **Convergence of Writing Tools and Technology:** The Wi-Fi Detecting Pen exemplifies the convergence of traditional writing tools with technology, seamlessly integrating functionality for both writing and Wi-Fi detection. ### Where This Applies - **Consumer Electronics:** The Wi-Fi Detecting Pen presents opportunities for the consumer electronics industry to develop innovative devices that combine everyday functionality with technology capabilities. - **Wireless Networking:** The trend of wireless hot spot detection creates disruptive opportunities for the wireless networking industry to enhance and optimize Wi-Fi signal detection and measurement. - **Stationery and Writing Instruments:** The convergence of writing tools and technology, as demonstrated by the Wi-Fi Detecting Pen, offers disruptive innovation opportunities for the stationery and writing instruments industry to create multifunctional products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wi-Fi Channel Monitors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-coconut.md) - [Spy Bug-Detecting Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bughunter-professional-bh04.md) - [Hidden Camera Detector Keychains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-hidden-camera-detector.md) - [Wall-Breaching Drone Trackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-device-1.md) - [Real-Time Digitizing Note-Taking Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digitizing-notetaking.md) - [Data-Stealing Device Locators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluesleuth-bluetooth-skimmer-locator.md) - [Hidden Tracker-Detecting Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bluesleuthlite.md) - [Pint-Sized EDC Pens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wolf-fang-20.md) - [Wi-Fi Manager Utilities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-echo.md)
