# Digital Pocket Mirrors 'Pearl' Lets Users See Themselves with One Click on the Mac Menubar By Joey Haar | Published 2016-09-14 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pearl References: [producthunt](https://www.producthunt.com/tech/pearl-3) & [thnkdev](http://thnkdev.com/Pearl/?ref=producthunt) '[Pearl](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pearls-ai-journal)' is a [Mac](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notchnook1) menubar add-on that makes efficient use of [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spycam) computers' built-in cameras. While the cameras on Mac computers, whether laptops or desktops, are handy in and of themselves, checking one's appearance on them usually means opening up Photobooth -- and the requisite waiting time that comes with it. The Pearl add-on lets users see themselves through their webcam with just one click. Plus, since Pearl is on the menubar (as opposed to a browser extension or taskbar app,) it's always accessible, no matter what else a user has running. The Pearl add-on is convenient for many situations. For example, it's a better way for users to double check their appearances before an important video call, with the potential to save people from the embarrassment of discovering something in their teeth midway through a job interview. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.3/10 - Popularity: 1% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Virtual Appearance Checking:** The development of add-ons that make use of built-in cameras for quick and easy virtual appearance checks. - **Efficient Camera Usage:** The trend toward software that maximizes the potential of built-in computer cameras for quick, efficient usage. - **Accessible Menubar Add-ons:** The rise of menubar add-ons for easy and constant accessibility in various computer tasks. ### Who This Affects Most - **Beauty and Personal Care:** Companies in this industry can capitalize on the trend of virtual appearance checking by developing and marketing their own camera-related add-ons and tools. - **Video Conferencing:** The video conferencing industry can benefit from efficient camera usage software that enhances the experience for its users. - **Digital Accessories:** Manufacturers of digital accessories can expand their offerings by creating more accessible menubar add-ons that offer added convenience to consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Photo Display Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/instantphoto.md) - [Multifunctional Webcam Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/webcam-and-lighting-tool.md) - [Mac-Based Surveillance Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spycam.md) - [Camera Overlay Utility Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hacky-loom.md) - [Eye Contact Webcams](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/icontact-camera.md) - [AI Journaling Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pearls-ai-journal.md) - [Video-Friendly Makeup Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rad-camera.md) - [Tech-Driven Beauty Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swan-beauty-mirror.md) - [Smartphone Webcam Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/continuity-camera-accessory.md)
