# Moon Temple Proposals 'Peak of Eternal Light' is a Lunar Temple for the European Space Agency By Joey Haar | Published 2016-08-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peak-of-eternal-light References: [archinect](http://archinect.com/news/article/149963586/european-space-agency-s-first-resident-artist-is-planning-a-temple-on-the-moon) & [artsy.net](https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-this-artist-is-working-with-the-european-space-agency-to-put-a-temple-on-the-moon) 'Peak of Eternal Light' is a temple design created by Jorge Manes Rubio, a Spanish artist, that is planned for a unique locale. Rather than being situated near a church or in a holy location -- or anywhere on Earth -- Rubio, who is the artist in residence for the [European Space Agency](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-horizons), has proposed that the temple be built on the moon. The European Space Agency, or [ESA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/european-space-agency-1), recently announced a competition for the design of a lunar village, and many architecture firms have already entered. But while those firms' plans were largely practical, Rubio's Peak of Eternal Light is spiritual. The temple is meant to help moon-based residents cope with the eventual death of another person permanently residing on the moon, which ESA sees as an inevitability at some point in the future. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Lunar Architecture:** Exploring and designing architecture for the moon opens up new industries to the possibility of conducting business operations and residential living beyond Earth - **Space-based Spirituality:** Constructing temples and religious structures in off-world locations increases the ability to practice religion and spirituality outside of planet Earth - **Moon-based End of Life Services:** Providing services and support for individuals grieving and coping with the loss of loved ones on the moon gives rise to new markets and opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses ### Where This Applies - **Space Architecture:** This moon temple proposal opens up new markets, creating opportunities for architects and contractors to provide infrastructure for the growing space and lunar economy - **Spiritual Tourism:** The increase of temples and religious structures on the moon and beyond presents a new niche for the tourism industry - **Funeral and Grief Services:** Creating support systems and services for the grieving on the moon presents opportunities for entrepreneurs in the funeral and counseling industries ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lunar-Based Rotating Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-pavilion.md) - [First-Ever Outer Space Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selenian.md) - [Multi-Faith Spiritual Temples](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nondenominational-temple.md) - [Elevated River-Accomodating Temples](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ganga-leheri-temple.md) - [Solar-Lined Energy Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-tower-1.md) - [3D-Printed Moon Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-surface-base.md) - [Moon-Inspired Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lua.md) - [Textured Moon-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phase-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Lunar Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonsetter-floor-lamp.md)
