# Avian-Like Kitchen Strainers This Peacock Colander Doubles as Decor When Not in Use By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2019-09-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peacock-colander References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2019/09/17/this-foldable-strainer-turns-into-a-majestic-peacock-when-not-in-use/) & [theswna](https://theswna.com/) This kitchen peacock colander has been created as an avian-inspired solution that will offer chefs an effective way to strain pasta and infuse a bit of personality into their cooking space. The accessory appears as a peacock-like decor item when not in use, but reveals a folding design when required in cooking to make the process of straining noodles or pasta an intuitive process. The handle acts as the body of the bird with the straining portion as the feather plume to cleverly hide in plain sight as a stoic decor accent. The peacock colander is the design work of Sukwoo Lee (SWNA) for Nongshim and addresses the increased demand for home decor essentials that can be left out on display without the need for conventional storage. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Avian-inspired Kitchen Accessories:** Designing kitchen accessories inspired by birds offers innovative ways to infuse personality and aesthetics into cooking spaces. - **Multi-functional Kitchenware:** Creating kitchenware with dual functionalities, like this peacock colander, provides practicality and decorative elements in one product. - **Decorative Storage Solutions:** Meeting the demand for home decor essentials that can be left out on display without compromising on functionality presents disruptive opportunities in the storage industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Kitchenware:** Innovating the design and functionality of kitchen accessories is a lucrative opportunity for businesses in the kitchenware industry. - **Home Decor:** Merging functionality and aesthetics in home decor items, such as this peacock colander, allows for differentiation and market disruption within the home decor industry. - **Storage:** Developing storage solutions that incorporate design elements into their functionality, like decorative storage for kitchen accessories, offers growth prospects for the storage industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bird-Shaped Food Packagings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bigbilled-bird-food-concept.md) - [Avian-Inspired Privacy Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peacock-chair-concept.md) - [Vibrant Outdoor Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-peacock-garden-bench.md) - [Cheeky Bathroom Plungers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stylish-plunger.md) - [Drop-Shaped Salad Spinners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-colander.md) - [Multi-Functional Pasta Spoons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-pasta-spoon.md) - [Aesthetic Bathroom Plungers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-plunger.md) - [Versatile Steamer-Pot Combos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/everything-pot1.md) - [Creative Dipping Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dip-sea.md)
