# Kaleidoscope Insect Decals This Installation Shows an Intricate Pattern of Bugs Fixed on the Walls By Ady Floyd | Published 2015-10-16 | Updated 2015-10-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pattern-of-bugs References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2015/10/15/bugs-wallpaper-installations-renwick-gallery-smithsonian-washington-dc-jennifer-angus-wonder-exhibition/) & [jenniferangus](http://www.jenniferangus.com/) American artist Jennifer Angus created this [unique art installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble), which is rather a larger pattern of bugs. The bugs themselves are merely tiny insects that have been group together to form massive shapes and designs. The installation consumes the entirety of a bright pink room at the Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. The pink room attracts viewers who are drawn in by their own curiosity of the [wallpaper-like designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ikea-museum-magical-patterns), which sprawl across the room’s perimeter. The creative pattern of bugs acts like a 3D wallpaper design, and has been appropriately titled ‘The Midnight Garden.’ The critters are grouped together and placed in [creative geometric patterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time) such as spirals, diamonds and circles. While the installation is creepy to some, it also acts as an elegant piece of artwork. The insect-infested display will be open for public viewing within the next month. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Bug Art Installations:** There is a potential for creative art installation that utilizes bugs as its primary concept. - **3D Wallpaper Designs:** An opportunity to create 3D wallpaper designs that imitates the creative groupings of insects. - **Insect Groupings:** There is an opportunity to use groupings of insects - as opposed to an individual insect - as inspiration for design projects. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** An opportunity for artists to create unique, insect-infested installations like Angus'. - **Wallpaper Manufacturing:** An opportunity for wallpaper manufacturers to produce imaginative, 3D wallpaper designs that mimic the groupings of insects. - **Graphic Design:** An opportunity to use insects' patterns and groupings as a creative inspiration for graphic design work. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Life-Sized Puzzled Insect Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-collection.md) - [Pattern-Heavy Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/what-are-you-looking-at.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Insect-Inspired Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-bronze-sculptures.md) - [Bug-Inspired Jewelry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/murder-hornet-ring.md) - [Critter-Inspired Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-meisen-collection.md) - [Colorful Patterned Infinity Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/i-spend-each-day-embracing-flowers.md) - [Swirled Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tunnel-vision-installation.md) - [Marble-Patterned Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychedelic-interior.md)
