# Porthole Diorama Exhibits Patrick Jacobs Creates Lush Miniature Scenes with Infinite Depth By Meghan Young | Published 2013-03-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patrick-jacobs References: [visualnews](http://www.visualnews.com/2013/03/02/tiny-worlds-through-a-porthole) & [patrickjacobs.info](http://patrickjacobs.info/) Patrick Jacobs gives people a unique glimpse of the natural world through tiny portholes. As though part of an elaborate magic spell worthy of the 'Harry Potter' franchise, a [pristine white art gallery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pure-exhibition) has been periodically punctured with these portholes that show off [nature-inspired dioramas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany) of secret gardens, lush forests and more. Born in California and based in Brooklyn, New York, Patrick Jacobs' [miniature scenes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/just-like-heaven-art-exhibition) look incredibly realistic. To enhance the eye-height view of the little settings, Patrick Jacobs uses small glass lens window with a negative focal length. As though peering through a common apartment door peep-hole, the foreshortened perspective gives the impression that his worlds have an infinite depth, thus encouraging the viewer to exercise his or her equally vast imagination whilst looking through. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Miniature Diorama Art:** A trend towards creating highly-detailed miniature scenes that allow viewers to experience a new, imaginative perspective of the world. - **Interactive Art Installations:** A growing trend in creating personalized experiences through immersive and interactive art installations. - **Optical Illusion Art:** A trend in creating art that plays with perspective and the viewer's perception, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art Galleries and Museums:** Art galleries and museums can embrace this trend by featuring exhibitions that showcase miniature diorama art installations. - **Event Planning and Design:** Event planners and designers can incorporate miniature diorama art installations and interactive exhibits into events to engage attendees and create personalized experiences. - **Theme Parks and Entertainment:** Theme parks and entertainment venues can utilize optical illusion art and interactive installations to enhance visitors' experiences and create unique attractions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md) - [Impressive DIY Terrariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-terrarium1.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Miniaturized Product Art Photographs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-muji.md) - [Interactive Colorful Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-bigger-closer.md) - [Gem-Like Sculptural Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cylindrical-lenses.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md)
