# Optical Illusion Furnishings Classic Parquet Design Makes a Modern Revival with Edition 02 Tables By Jana Pijak | Published 2014-09-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parquet-design References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/vote/edition-02-tables-by-tino-valentinitsch/) & [spolia.at](http://www.spolia.at/) When one thinks of traditional parquet design, modern furnishings are not the first thing that comes to mind. Designer Tino Valentinitsch revived this outdated material to create Edition 02, his line of [geometric side table and stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-co) accessories. The home decor items were created using parquet from the 1850's, a material that is not often synonymous with furniture construction. The upcycled material was found in a vintage Bolognese villa and transformed into this line of fun and perception-altering furnishings. The geometric tables are [modular and multi-functional](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modulo-collection), making them perfect for the rustic home or contemporary interior. The updated furnishings are fun and sculptural, boasting a [decorative and tiled pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reglow). This parquet design motif creates an optical illusion from different angles and adds depth to each piece. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Revitalized Parquet:** Antique materials being transformed into modern furniture designs to create visually stunning furnishings. - **Multi-functional Furnishings:** Furniture that is both decorative and utilitarian, made to serve more than one purpose in a home or work environment. - **Perception-altering Designs:** Furniture and decor that creates an optical illusion and adds depth to a space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Vintage Home Decor:** Companies that specialize in upcycling vintage materials into modern home furnishings. - **Interior Design:** Interior design firms that look to incorporate unique furniture pieces and design elements. - **Sustainable Design:** Companies looking to reduce waste and promote sustainable materials in furniture production. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Geometric Cutout Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/designated-table.md) - [Puzzling Geometric Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linked-side-table.md) - [Playful Structural Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palma-collection.md) - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Optical-Illusion Home Decor Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sevval-kalaycikli.md) - [Playful Accent Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table.md) - [Contemporary Elegant Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-table-designs.md) - [Sustainable Side Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/re-up-side-tables.md) - [Elegant Tonal Table Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silos-collection.md)
