The initiative transforms the site into a public park dedicated to memory and community engagement. The design centers on the existing Black Rock, the world's oldest memorial to the Irish Famine, which marks a mass grave from 1847. Lemay incorporates new elements into the memorial, including a reflective water feature, a corten steel wall engraved with Celtic crosses, and a belvedere shaped like a ship's prow overlooking the Saint Lawrence River. The surrounding landscape integrates green spaces and stone markers reminiscent of historical fever sheds, while a museum pavilion provides educational resources about Irish immigration and local humanitarian efforts. The project by Lemay and the Montreal Irish Monument Park Foundation emphasizes universal accessibility, ecological sustainability through [native plantings and permeable surfaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecopark), and connectivity to urban infrastructure.
