# Juxtaposed Architectural Styles Studioctopi's Park Avenue South Home Mixes Old and New By Jessica Marcel | Published 2010-01-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/park-avenue-south References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2010/01/29/park-avenue-south-by-studioctopi/) & [lyndondouglas](http://www.lyndondouglas.com/) Studioctopi designed Park Avenue South, a home that not-so-gracefully combines [old and new architectural styles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mygunyah-by-the-circus). The main section of the house is [traditional brick](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/west-84th-street-brownstone), but the front section is decidedly modern. The two sections of Park Avenue South look like they were designed completely separately, and then oddly mashed together. It isn’t a totally negative effect, but it would require some getting used to. Park Avenue South was photographed by Lyndon Douglas. **Implications** - And he does a fantastic job of [juxtaposing the two parts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lichelle-silvestry) of the house, highlighting their eccentricities and helping hammer home the strange nature of this collaboration. Nevertheless, there's something intriguing about a house like this. I can't imagine turning down a night there. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Merging Architectural Styles:** The trend shows a disruptive innovation opportunity for architects and designers to create homes that mix and match elements of different architectural styles in a unique and creative way. - **Eclectic Home Design:** This trend presents an opportunity for home decor and furniture companies to create products that blend classic and modern design aesthetics to complement the eclectic home style. - **Bringing Opposite Styles Together:** This trend opens up potential for marketing and advertising agencies to use the idea of bringing unexpected and contrasting styles together in their campaigns and messaging. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects can leverage this trend to create unique and unconventional buildings that creatively combine different styles and materials. - **Home Decor and Furniture:** This trend offers an opportunity for home decor and furniture companies to provide products that cater to the growing demand for eclectic and personalized home design. - **Marketing and Advertising:** Marketing and advertising agencies can incorporate the concept of blending opposing styles in their campaigns to attract attention and differentiate from competitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cross Cultural Duplexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clinton-hill-duplex.md) - [Luxuriously Artistic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/child-studio1.md) - [Eccentrically Designed Historic Penthomes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crina-arghirescu-rogard.md) - [Juxtaposing Retro Cottage Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drew-mandel-architects.md) - [Juxtaposing History-Preserved Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/double-gable.md) - [Spacially Contrasting Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barwon-heads-house.md) - [Restored Urban Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/west-84th-street-brownstone.md) - [Traditional Barn-Style Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/six-square-house.md) - [Duplex-Appearing Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duplex-house.md)
