# High-Altitude Paper Airplanes This Paper Airplane Was Launched Nearly 100,000 Feet Above Earth By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2014-09-25 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-airplanes References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/fox-valley-composite-squadron-worlds-highest-paper-airplane/33939/) & [foxcap.org](http://www.foxcap.org/media/fvcs5/FVCS-5_Guinness_World_Record_Press_Release.pdf) A team of US Air Force auxiliary volunteers launched a high-tech paper airplane from a high-altitude balloon at an altitude of 29,432 meters, setting a new world record for paper airplane flight. It definitely beats that airplane you launched across the classroom in Grade 7 math class. The paper airplane was launched from Kankakee in Illinois and landed over 132 km away just southwest of Rochester, Indiana. The record-breaking flight took around 2 hours and 7 minutes. The paper airplane has a traditional paper airplane shape and is made out of paper board. 76 cm long and weighing 424 grams, the plane was fitted with GPS tracking technology, temperature sensors, a barometric pressure sensor, a flight computer, batteries, a solar panel and an HD video camera that captured some great pics during flight. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **High-altitude Paper Airplanes:** Opportunity to develop high-altitude paper airplanes for various purposes, such as scientific research or entertainment. - **Gps-enabled Paper Airplanes:** Potential for creating paper airplanes with GPS tracking technology for location-based games or educational purposes. - **Paper Airplane Technology:** Innovation opportunities in improving the design and materials of paper airplanes to enhance flight performance and durability. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Aerospace:** Application of high-altitude paper airplanes in aerial surveys, atmospheric research, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) development. - **Toys and Games:** Market potential for GPS-enabled paper airplanes as a unique and interactive toy or game for children and adults. - **Education:** Integration of paper airplane technology into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education to engage students in hands-on learning and experimentation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hydrogen-Powered Hypersonic Airplanes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-magnetar.md) - [Rechargeable Child Rocket Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/national-geographic-power-rocket.md) - [Kids Innovative Stunt Planes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aerostorm-stunt-plane.md) - [Eco-Friendly Stratospheric Aircrafts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sceye-haps.md) - [Parachute Delivery Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kirigami-parachute.md) - [Heavy-Duty Hybrid Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybrid-drones.md) - [Robotic Vacuum Space Expeditions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roborock-s8-maxv-ultra.md) - [Powerfully Propelled VTOL Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vtol-drone.md) - [Electric Vehicle World Records](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyundai-ioniq-5.md)
