# Palm Tree-Inspired Chairs The 'PAM' Chair Gives Off a Tropical Feel By Joey Haar | Published 2016-07-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pam-chair References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/pam-chair-mimics-palm-leaf/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [sfdesignlab](http://www.sfdesignlab.com/pile_portfolio/pam/) For those yearning for an azure ocean, crystal beaches and whispering palm trees but are stuck in the city, the PAM chair helps to satisfy a craving. Created by pan-European architecture firm [Studioforma](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/futuristic-table-lamp), the chair mimics the [ribbed pattern of a palm leaf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair) and the pale, dark wood of a palm tree. Not in fact crafted from a palm tree, the chairs are made from solid walnut. Though the name, PAM, is nearly a homonym for the '"palm" that it resembles, the Studioforma team chose the feminine name because of the chair's "smooth and svelte silhouette." With angled back legs that run flush with the ribbed back support, the chair's forward leaning posture invites consumers to kick back on PAM and imagine themselves relaxing on a beach, drink in hand, the world in their rear view mirror. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Nature-inspired Furniture:** Manufacturing furniture with designs patterned after natural elements. - **Biophilic Design:** Developing interior and architectural designs to incorporate elements of nature. - **Sustainable Materials:** Producing furniture using eco-friendly materials, taking into account environmental impact. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Creating chairs and other furniture using sustainable materials and with designs inspired by nature, such as the PAM chair. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating biophilic design elements into interior spaces in order to improve human well-being by creating a connection to nature. - **Architecture:** Exploring biophilic design principles in architectural design to improve building sustainability and human health and productivity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wooden Framed Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paf-paf-chair.md) - [Outdoor Lounging Rocking Hammocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panama-banana.md) - [Chic Pineapple Leather Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pineapple-leather-chair.md) - [Living Plant DIY Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-hideaway.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-lounge-chair1.md) - [Plant-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmetto-lamp.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [High-Quality Flatpack Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pagoda-chair.md)
