# Radical Sculptural Art-Like Furniture Acerbis Brings Back the Palla Armchair by Claudio Salocchi By Amy Duong | Published 2025-04-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palla References: [acerbisdesign](https://www.acerbisdesign.com/en/) Italian furniture imprint [Acerbis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/florian) revisits its archive designs and brings back the iconic Palla armchair originally created by Claudio Salocchi. The form boasted a futuristic language that was radical at the time -- it is comprised of two sections, which are the seat and the footrest. The [modular element of the chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pla-modular-chair) shows off that it can actually be slotted together. When joined, it creates a [sculptural centerpiece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcata) that could be part of conventional furniture design as well. The brand explains, “Palla stood out for its radical concept, challenging conventional furniture design and exploring new ways of relaxation and conviviality. Starting from the volume of a sphere, Salocchi deconstructs its form into a perfect balance of function and aesthetics.” Image Credit: Acerbis ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 39% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Modular Furniture Design:** Innovative designs that allow for reconfiguration are transforming traditional furniture into flexible, multifunctional pieces. - **Sculptural Home Decor:** Art-inspired furniture pieces are blurring the boundaries between function and aesthetics, creating opportunities for artistic self-expression in interiors. - **Retro Design Revival:** Nostalgic furniture designs from past decades are being reimagined with modern materials and techniques, appealing to both collectors and contemporary buyers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The integration of sculptural elements in furniture is redefining how spaces are curated, emphasizing art as a functional component. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Advances in modular design and materials are enabling manufacturers to produce customizable, adaptive furniture solutions for modern living spaces. - **Art Collectibles:** The intersection of art and function in furniture is creating a new category of collectible items, attracting art investors and design enthusiasts alike. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Childhood-Informed Dome Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-clodette-chair.md) - [Ancient-Tinged Juxtaposing Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coliseum-chair.md) - [Curvaceous Padded Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/talk-chair.md) - [Upholstered Organically Shaped Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-clam-chair.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Quirky Postmodern Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ebba-armchair.md) - [Wooden Framed Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paf-paf-chair.md) - [Iconic Furniture Releases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jumbo-lounge-chair.md) - [Geometric Flatpacked Wooden Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedia-tonda.md)
