The stool features a sturdy [X-shaped wooden frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/euljiro) that is wrapped with a graphics-covered canvas seat section to create an artistic furniture piece that is perfect for sporadic use. When the chair isn't in use it can be folded up into a slim unit that is capable of being [hung on a wall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf) to transform it into a work of art that will stay discreetly out of the way until it's needed once again. The conceptual 'Painting Stool' is the design work of Shen Wenjiao and is the winner of the 2019 Red Dot Design Concept Award. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Collapsible Furniture:** The concept of collapsible furniture allows for space-saving solutions in small or dynamic environments. - **Functional Art:** The integration of art and functionality offers a creative and versatile approach to home furnishing. - **Discreet Storage:** Furniture that can be easily stored and disguised when not in use provides a clutter-free living space. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore innovative ways to create multi-functional and space-saving products. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate artwork-disguised stools into their designs to add a touch of creativity and functionality to spaces. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can market artwork-disguised stools as a trendy and practical solution for stylish living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fan-Shaped Stackable Stool Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stool-concept.md) - [Functional Decorative Rocking Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rool-stool.md) - [Modular Workspace Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versatile-stool-design.md) - [Flat-Packed Wooden Stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-stool-concept.md) - [Visibly Undulating Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concave-stool.md) - [Sliding Flatpack Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folio-chair.md) - [Colorful Dual-Purpose Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/s1-stool.md) - [Dual-Function Seating Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubik-stool.md) - [Functional Flat-Packed Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/walle-stool.md)
