The photographs were captured by [Seattle, Washington-based photographer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photography-seoul-museum-of-art) Paul Edmondson. A former Forest Service archaeologist, Edmonson's photographs contain a natural sense of wonder and discovery. These Painted Hills photos show the intricately [colored volcanic ash](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-butte-ranch) that makes these hills so unique. Depending on the weather, light and time of day, the hills can appear as any number of shades of red or yellow. Edmondson's photographic gaze however makes the landscape mysterious and almost too eerie to be true. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 90% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Nature Photography:** The trend towards photographing natural wonders such as the Painted Hills presents opportunities for businesses in the photography industry to offer specialized services and equipment to meet demand. - **Eco-tourism:** The popularity of natural wonders such as the Painted Hills may lead to increased demand for sustainable, eco-tourism experiences in the travel industry. - **Virtual Tourism:** Advancements in virtual reality technology provide opportunities for businesses in the tourism industry to offer immersive experiences of natural wonders such as the Painted Hills to individuals who may be unable or unwilling to travel in person. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** Photography businesses can capitalize on the popularity of natural wonders such as the Painted Hills by offering specialized equipment and tours, or by hiring expert photographers for guided shoots. - **Travel:** Travel companies can take advantage of interest in the Painted Hills by offering eco-tourism packages, outdoor adventures, and educational tours in the surrounding area. - **Virtual Reality:** Companies specializing in virtual reality technology can develop immersive experiences of natural wonders such as the Painted Hills, providing a unique option for individuals who cannot travel in person. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Desert Landscape Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juniper-hill-home.md) - [Photographer-Honoring Stamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ansel-adams.md) - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [Anime-Style Travel Ads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animated-travel-ads.md) - [Travel Photography Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/all-within-the-detour.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Volcanic Landscape-Informed Lodges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-butte-ranch.md) - [Bright Hillside Garden Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pigment-house.md)
