# Cylindrical Tree Houses Malan Vorster's Paarman Treehouse Gives Panoramic Forest Views By Joey Haar | Published 2017-04-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paarman-treehouse References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/04/19/malan-vorster-treehouse-residence-views-cape-town-forest-architecture-residential-south-africa/) & [malanvorster.co.za](http://www.malanvorster.co.za/) Elevated on stilts, the interconnected [cylindrical volumes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burl-treehouse) that make up Paarman Treehouse offer a stunning, [panoramic view of the forest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/columbia-river-valley-lookout) that surrounds the Cape Town retreat. Though glass features heavily in its design, the combination of cylinders and [timber slats that cover the exterior](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sawmill-treehouse) of the building help it to blend in to the environment, reducing its aesthetic impact. Paarman Treehouse was designed by Mala Vorster, a local Cape Town architecture studio. The building was placed on stilts not only to mimic the appearance of the trees in the area, but also to elevate the home so that the views from inside are as spectacular as possible. It's built on the highest portion of a slope for the same reason. Residents can enter the house via a swirling staircase underneath the abode. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.8/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Cylindrical Architecture:** Exploring the design and construction techniques of cylindrical buildings offers new possibilities for unique and visually striking structures. - **Integration of Nature:** Combining natural elements such as trees and forest views into architectural designs presents opportunities to create harmonious and immersive living environments. - **Elevated Retreats:** Creating elevated structures like treehouses provides an elevated perspective and breathtaking views, offering a unique experience for residents and tourists alike. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects and designers can explore and incorporate cylindrical structures in their projects, pushing the boundaries of traditional building methods and aesthetics. - **Sustainable Construction:** Integrating sustainable materials and techniques into the construction of nature-centric buildings allows for the development of eco-friendly and visually appealing retreats. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** Investing in elevated retreats with panoramic views can attract tourists seeking unique and immersive experiences, injecting innovation and differentiation into the hospitality sector. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cartoonish Tubular Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tubular-treehouse.md) - [Nature-Immersive Tranquil Resorts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treehouse-villas.md) - [Vaulted Structural Telescopic Treehouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistree-home.md) - [Elevated Treetop Modern Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buitenverblijf-nest.md) - [Tree-Surrounding Mass-Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-courtyard-house.md) - [Repurposed Wooden Shoreside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-house-by-the-lake.md) - [Stilts-Reading Suspended Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-hole-with-the-house-around.md) - [Contemporary Conservationist Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sylvascope-treehouse.md) - [Slatted Steel Treehouse Surroundings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sawmill-treehouse.md)
