# Holey Asymmetrical Lighting The Oval Lamp by Ran Lerner is Filled with Geometric Lines and Shapes By Meghan Young | Published 2012-09-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/asymmetrical-oval-lamp-by-ran-lerner/) & [ranlerner](http://www.ranlerner.com/) The Oval Lamp is a deceptively [minimalist light fixture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-light). All white with [geometric shapes and lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impulse-wall-light), it nevertheless has an avant-garde aesthetic that would lend an artistic touch to any living space. [Dramatically asymmetrical](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light), the Oval Lamp is impaled by its thin stand. Thankfully, it sports a wide gaping hole that allows the stand to more than comfortably thread through. Created by Ran Lerner, a product designer based in New York City , the Oval Lamp made its debut earlier this year during New York Design Week. According to Lerner, the singular design is purported "to provide a visual counter balance, and great emission of light." Perfect for both modern and traditional homes, the Oval Lamp will make a bold statement. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 49% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Lighting:** Opportunity for innovative designers to create minimalist light fixtures that feature geometric shapes and lines. - **Asymmetrical Design:** Designers can explore asymmetrical aesthetics to create visually striking and avant-garde products. - **Artistic Home Accessories:** The popularity of artistic home decor opens up a market for unique and visually captivating lighting fixtures like the Oval Lamp. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate minimalist lighting fixtures with geometric shapes and lines into their projects for a modern aesthetic. - **Product Design:** Product designers can explore asymmetrical design principles to create visually impactful and avant-garde products in various industries. - **Home Decor Retail:** Home decor retailers can tap into the demand for artistic home accessories, such as the Oval Lamp, to offer unique and statement-making products to customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md) - [Elegant Metal Perforated Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp.md) - [Adjustable Sculptural Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovo-lamp.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Geometric White Onyx Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/embrun-lighting.md)
