Trike manufacturer Outrider developed this [modular adaptive trike](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-etrikes) that is designed to help people with disabilities wheel over pavement and dirt like able-bodied trike enthusiasts. This trike can be pedaled with the hands or legs, or powered by an [electric hub motor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-trike-design).

The Horizon trike was the brainchild of Chris Wenner, a bicycle enthusiast who broke his neck at the age of 17, making him unable to ride a bicycle. As Wenner grew up, he began tinkering with electric bike designs and eventually turned to Outrider to help make his designs a reality.

Like Outrider's other trikes, the Horizon offers three riding options -- pedal-powered, [pedal-assist electric](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vemoo-recumbent-tricycle) and electric only.

Outrider's co-founder Jesse Lee says the Horizon trike takes note of the fact that "just because an individual has a physical disability, doesn't mean they don’t still crave the adventure and freedom of riding a bike."
