# Collapsible Wooden Seats The OSSA Chair by Johannessen/Clarke Design Folds Up Conveniently By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ossa-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/10/03/ossa-chair-by-johannessenclarke-design/) & [johannessenclarke](http://johannessenclarke.com/) The OSSA Chair is like a wooden marionette doll. Although there is no need for any strings to manipulate the movements of this piece of furniture, namely because the sitter would appreciate it if it stood still, the OSSA Chair does collapse as if the master puppeteer had placed the strings down. Great for [small spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nstel-the-chair), the OSSA Chair was created by Solveig Johannessen and Krystin Clarke, two designers based in Vancouver, Canada. Not the average [folding chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldseat), it becomes compact width-wise rather than length-wise. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the OSSA Chair features a unique [spine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pere-chair) that allows for this motion. Thus the name, which means 'bones' in Latin, makes sense. Thankfully, it only bends in one direction. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Collapsible Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing furniture that can be easily folded and stored for small spaces. - **Space-saving Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating innovative products that help maximize space in both indoor and outdoor environments. - **Innovative Chair Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing unique chair designs that combine functionality and aesthetic appeal while offering convenience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing innovative materials and folding mechanisms to revolutionize the furniture industry. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating collapsible furniture into interior design concepts to optimize space utilization in various settings. - **Outdoor Living:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Designing foldable furniture solutions specifically tailored for outdoor environments, such as patio or balcony spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ultra-Minimalist Folding Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notch-folding-chair.md) - [Industrial Flatpack Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tekron-folding-chair.md) - [Recycled Scissor-Like Folding Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fauld-chair.md) - [Sliding Flatpack Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folio-chair.md) - [Practical Folding Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patan-chair.md) - [Pocket-Sized Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-sized-chair.md) - [Dynamic Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldont-chair.md) - [Collapsible Timber Sofa Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ospite-folding-sofa.md) - [Collapsible Outdoor Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-outdoor-furniture.md)
