# Ornamental Libraries The Bookman Shelf By Howard Wu | Published 2008-05-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ornamental-libraries-the-bookman-shelf References: [anyamountofbooks](http://www.anyamountofbooks.com/bookman.html) The 'Bookman', pictured here, is a decorative, yet functional piece of furniture, designed and sold in England by artist Kazmierz Szmauz. The construction is wooden, usually made of mahogany. While it certainly takes more space that a traditional bookshelf, these displays are much more creative and they can add a lot of character to a rather mundane home library. Bonus: The “Bookman” is available in three different postures, as shown on the company's [website](http://www.anyamountofbooks.com/bookman.html). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Ornamental Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to create aesthetically pleasing furniture that doubles as functional pieces. - **Personalized Home Decor:** Opportunity to create personalized, visually interesting home libraries for individuals and families. - **Handcrafted Items:** Opportunity for artisans and craftsmen to create unique, handmade pieces of furniture that stand out in a world of mass-produced items. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to innovate and create new, visually appealing pieces that serve a purpose. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies and manufacturers to produce personalized, unique products that cater to consumers' desires for individuality. - **Artisanal Crafts:** Opportunity for artisans and craftsmen to create handcrafted pieces of furniture that appeal to consumers looking for one-of-a-kind items. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Personality-Enhancing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ordo-book.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Expandable Bookcase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burrow-index-bookcase.md) - [Toy Block-Inspired Wooden Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotating-picture-book.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md)
