# Origami-Inspired Lighting Modern Floor Lamps Mimic Traditional Japanese Paper Folding By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-10-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-lamps-rs-life References: [dwell](http://www.dwell.com/products/origami-lamp.html) & [rs-life](http://www.rs-life.com/RS2009.pdf) Spanish designers Cutu Mazuelos and Eva Prego of [Stone Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pocket-chair) have applied the age-old art of Japanese paper folding to aluminum to make beautiful crane-like floor lamps. A triangle shape at the top of a tall angled base supports the bulb. The entire structure is slightly out of balance providing just a bit of motion if the lamp is touched. The [aluminium lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape) are available in five smooth finish polyester paint colors: red, orange, white, black, and blue. The promotional video above doesn’t include the [origami floor lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gami-collection), but it does give you a glimpse into the designs produced by the Stone Designs studio. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Origami-inspired Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrating traditional Japanese art forms into modern lighting designs - **Triangle-shaped Floor Lamps:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating unique and interactive lighting experiences through geometric designs - **Aluminium Finish:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experimenting with different materials to enhance the visual appeal of lighting fixtures ### Who This Affects Most - **Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating cultural influences into lighting designs to create a unique selling point - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring unconventional lighting options to enhance the overall aesthetic of interior spaces - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Offering consumers distinctive and artistic lighting choices that elevate their home decor ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Inspired Half-Folded Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/half-lamp.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md) - [Flat-Pack Paper Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tsubomi.md) - [Blooming Paper Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kazuhiro-yamanaka-tsubomi-lamp.md) - [Bamboo Forest-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightbone.md) - [Origami-Inspired Suspended Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-pendant-light.md) - [Japanese Lantern-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/madco.md) - [Origami-Inspired Lit Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightup.md) - [Foldable Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp.md)
