The Origami House is an [emergency shelter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anduhyaun-emergency-shelter) that was introduced after the devastating earthquake that hit Japan. It was meant to be a temporary solution, but because of its ease to make and assemble, it took on a life of its own. Designed by [Architecture Global Aid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cultural-space), the Origami House is not just a great alternative to the bleak government issued shelters due to its spaciously peaked design, it is practical after the fact as well. It can be used as a table when put away as a shelter. Made out of wood painted bright colors, they float and are easily identifiable during floods. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Paper Art-inspired Shelters:** The trend of using paper art as inspiration for emergency shelters presents opportunities for innovative and visually appealing designs. - **Origami House:** The Origami House is an example of a disruptive innovation in the field of emergency shelter solutions, offering a temporary yet practical and easily identifiable option. - **Spacious and Multi-functional Designs:** The trend towards designing emergency shelters that are spacious and have multi-functional capabilities creates opportunities for improved comfort and usability during crises. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** The architecture and design industry can explore creative ways to use innovative materials and incorporate visually appealing elements into emergency shelter solutions inspired by paper art. - **Disaster Relief and Emergency Management:** The disaster relief and emergency management industry can incorporate origami-inspired designs like the Origami House to provide more efficient and effective temporary shelters after natural disasters. - **Social Impact and Humanitarian Aid:** The social impact and humanitarian aid sector can support the development and deployment of paper art-inspired shelters, addressing the urgent need for temporary housing solutions in times of crisis. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainably Crafted Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-log-house.md) - [Eco-Friendly Modular Refugee Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/allspace-1.md) - [Collapsible Outdoor Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Disaster-Ready Housing Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/essential-homes.md) - [Humanized Waiting Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/de-wachtkamer.md) - [Origami-Inspired Sleek Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinity-mobile-architecture-system.md) - [Climate Relief Temporary Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/additive-manufacturing-homes-crisis.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md) - [Experimental Shelter Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grayhus.md)
