# Lunar-Inspired Lights The Orbit Light Rotates around a Swingable Arm to Provide Light By Justin Lam | Published 2018-08-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-light References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/08/30/orbit-light-jesse-ede-lighting-design/) & [jesse-ede](http://jesse-ede.com/orbit/) Designed by South African artist Jesse Ede, the Orbit light is an innovative [celestial-inspired light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-collection) that turns full circle to mimic the moon. Inspired by the trajectory of the moon around the earth, this light continues Ede's [lunar-themed series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-lamp-concept), which began with the Lunar table and bench. The light itself is constructed from solid brass and features an arm and bulb that moves in a full [360-degree rotation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-table-light) around the cast-bronze bowl. This allows the Orbit light to illuminate from any chosen angle. The light also features a distinct patina that gives the light a raw and aged appearance. Ede is apparently very drawn to this aesthetic as the natural finish to his work illuminates the contrast of man-made processes and raw materials. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Celestial-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating lighting fixtures that mimic celestial bodies like the moon. - **360-degree Rotating Lights:** Chance for disruptive innovation in developing lights that can rotate a full 360-degrees around a fixed point for versatile illumination. - **Raw and Aged Aesthetics:** Potential for disruptive innovation in designing lighting products with distinct patinas and raw, aged appearances for a unique aesthetic appeal. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the interior design industry by integrating celestial-inspired lighting fixtures into modern spaces. - **Lighting Manufacturing:** Chance for disruptive innovation in the lighting manufacturing industry by developing lights with 360-degree rotation capabilities for versatile use. - **Decorative Arts:** Potential for disruptive innovation in the decorative arts industry by incorporating raw and aged aesthetics in lighting designs for artistic appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Lunar Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonsetter-floor-lamp.md) - [Textured Moon-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phase-lamp.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [Moon-Inspired Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lua.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Magnetic Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbe.md) - [Astro-Inspired Sculptural Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elara-suspension.md) - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Astronomical Concept-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/copernica.md) - [Solar System-Inspired Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmooval.md)
