# Twisting Light Fixtures The Ora Lamp by Santiago Sevillano is Inspired by the Bakelite Bell Phone By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ora-lamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/04/27/ora-lamp-has-positive-aura/) & [santiagosevillano](http://www.santiagosevillano.com/) Although the Ora Lamp looks to me like it was inspired by some kind of alien space ship, it was actually inspired by the classic and cool shape of the Bakelite Bell phone handset. Of course, the designer put a futuristic, sci-fi spin on this iconic telephone design to keep it modern. That designer happens to be the one and only Santiago Sevillano. The last time Trend Hunter featured his work, he was inspired by natural and organic flames with his aptly titled [Flame Lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp). This time, he has stepped away from the caveman aesthetic and gone for a [sleeker, more sophisticated look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joe-colombo) with the Ora Lamp. Made out of injected polycarbonate, the [Ora Lamp's connecting components twist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovo-lamp) to easily direct light to desired locations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Futuristic Lighting:** The Ora Lamp by Santiago Sevillano represents a trend towards futuristic and innovative lighting designs. - **Inspired by Nostalgia:** The Ora Lamp's design, inspired by the Bakelite Bell phone, taps into the trend of incorporating nostalgic elements into modern products. - **Versatile Light Directing:** The twisting components of the Ora Lamp highlight the trend of designing lighting fixtures that offer flexible and adjustable light directing capabilities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Lighting Design:** The Ora Lamp showcases opportunities for lighting designers to create futuristic and versatile lighting solutions. - **Product Design:** The incorporation of nostalgic elements in the Ora Lamp indicates potential for product designers to incorporate nostalgia into their designs for a modern touch. - **Interior Design:** The Ora Lamp's sleek and sophisticated look presents opportunities for interior designers to incorporate futuristic lighting fixtures into contemporary spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Childhood-Inspired Magnetic Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbe.md) - [3D-Printed Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbyt.md) - [Calming Orb Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-lamp1.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Three-in-One Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bell-lamp.md) - [Astro-Inspired Sculptural Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elara-suspension.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp.md) - [Bold Anniversary Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/serpente-lamp.md)
