The studio was commissioned by [Airbnb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/open-studio1) to create furniture that reflected the brand's open-office environment where employees working on laptops don't have a dedicated desk space. The studio came up with a series of boxy chairs and love seats made from sheets of Russian birch wood. Each individual chair weighs in at 50 pounds, which makes it moveable around the office, but also sturdy enough not to move around if an employee decides to kick up their feet. Each seat also comes with a removable wool-upholstered foam cushion and brass hardware on the side to connect the wooden pieces together and add a subtle level of decoration. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 95% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Open-plan Office Furniture:** Opportunity for designing adaptable and lightweight furniture for modern and communal workspaces. - **Flexible Workspace Solutions:** Potential for designing furniture that accommodates the needs of employees without dedicated desk spaces. - **Sustainable Office Furniture:** Opportunity for creating eco-friendly furniture using materials like Russian birch wood and removable wool-upholstered cushions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** An industry that can explore and develop innovative furniture solutions for open-plan workspaces with a focus on mobility and adaptability. - **Office Space Management:** Opportunity for companies in this industry to offer services and products that help businesses optimize and manage flexible workspaces. - **Sustainable Materials & Textiles:** Industry with potential to provide eco-friendly materials and fabrics for the production of open-plan office furniture that aligns with sustainability goals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [People-Pleasing Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubicle-system.md) - [Bench Wall Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubicle.md) - [Dynamic Modular Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunon-furniture-mixcube.md) - [Chunky Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chunky-furniture.md) - [Vibrant Versatile Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/here-now-1.md) - [Modular Post-Pandemic Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/futo-collection-furniture.md) - [Adaptable Office Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/homework-seating-collection.md) - [Modular Configured Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet.md) - [Workplace-Centric Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prostoria.md)
