# Abstractedly Imperfect Homes The Open Air Sculpture House Has Room to Breathe By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-07-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/open-air-sculpture-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/07/04/the-open-air-sculpture-house-by-marek-rytych-architekt/) & [marekrytych.pl](http://www.marekrytych.pl/) Marek Rytych Architekt designed the Open Air Sculpture house in a suburban neighborhood of Warsaw, Poland. The architects ensured that the interior and exterior of the house blend so smoothly and thoroughly, one might walk by without noticing that they've encroached onto someone's property. This is accomplished by surrounding the house with what appears to be a [concrete blanket](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-house-1), which also works to enhance the industrial aesthetic. Inside, the architects used [raw materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamat-house), such as sheet metal (which appears in the dining room and bathroom), wood and [exposed brick](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raw-house). The staircase is left unfinished, contrasting its concrete underbelly with the polished wooden floor. It was important to the architects that the home, while spacious, revealed its incompleteness and roughness in a way that made it abstract and interesting. The open plan allowed the architects to play with these imperfections, as well as create different perspectives throughout. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 95% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Industrial Aesthetic:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in creating industrial-inspired designs that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. - **Raw Material Usage:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the utilization of raw materials like sheet metal, wood, and exposed brick in interior design. - **Abstract and Interesting Homes:** Designing homes that embrace incompleteness and roughness in an abstract and intriguing way can be a disruptive innovation in the housing industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by creating designs that seamlessly blend industrial aesthetics with their surroundings. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating raw materials like sheet metal, wood, and exposed brick in interior design can be a disruptive innovation in the industry. - **Housing:** The housing industry can benefit from disruptive innovation by embracing abstract and interesting designs that showcase incompleteness and roughness in a captivating way. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Prefabricated Exposed Structural Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-unfinished-house.md) - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Discreet Architectural Polish Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-house.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Pavilion-Style Art Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galeria-house.md) - [Simple Material Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/openfield-house.md) - [Privacy Enhanced Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-open-house-1.md) - [Modern Sculptural Garden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/priyam-home.md) - [Hillside Concrete Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-house-1.md)
