# Artistically Destroyed Cabinets The Oops Cabinet Makes Irresponsibility into Art By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-05-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oops-cabinet References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2014/05/14/Real-Dandelions-Turned-Into-Remarkable-OLED-Lights/) & [straightlinedesigns](http://www.straightlinedesigns.com/oops.html) The Oops cabinet is one of the stranger pieces of furniture to come out. Normally I wouldn’t advise buying a [piece of furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/future-perfect) that looks like it took a bowling ball straight through the middle, but in this case it may be the best course of action. In [older cartoons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child) (specifically Looney Toons), we see designs like this -- mainly in the middle of one of the characters -- but in this case it’s in the middle of a dresser. Fear not though, as the dresser isn’t actually broken and each piece still operates the normal way. The specific dressers are different sizes, due to the seemingly random [jagged edges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no1-common), but still slide out and hold everything the right way. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Upside-down Aesthetics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create furniture designs that incorporate unconventional and visually striking elements like jagged edges and unconventional shapes. - **Playful Deconstruction:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop furniture pieces that mimic the appearance of being destroyed or damaged while still maintaining functionality and usability. - **Cartoon-inspired Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design furniture that draws inspiration from older cartoons, incorporating whimsical and comedic elements into functional pieces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new design possibilities by incorporating unconventional aesthetics into furniture manufacturing processes. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embrace playful and unconventional furniture pieces to create unique and eye-catching interior designs for residential and commercial spaces. - **Art and Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Merge art and functionality by producing furniture pieces that blur the line between traditional furniture and sculptural art installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Thoughtful Wheeling Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet-on-wheels.md) - [Unique Burl-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/don-heston-studio.md) - [Broken-Aesthetic Sculpture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brokenaesthetic-sculpture-collection.md) - [Volcanic Rock-Inspired Cabinet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuff-pencil-cabinet.md) - [Psychedelic Hand-Painted Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-iii.md) - [Upcycled Object Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-and-daniel-arsham.md) - [Sustainable Recycled Paper Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no-screws-no-glue.md) - [Sandbox-Like Modular Storage Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-storage-cabinet1.md) - [Anti-Tipping Cabinet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ikea-greker.md)
