# Table-Transforming Couches The Сonvertible Sofa by Julia Kononenko Converts into a Dining Se By Meghan Young | Published 2013-01-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onvertible-sofa-by-julia-kononenko References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/sonvertible-sofa/6411229) & [kononenkoid](http://kononenkoid.com/) The Convertible Sofa by Julia Kononenko, an industrial designer based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, is not the typical multifunctional piece of furniture. Instead of simply packing away neatly, converting into a smaller set of seats or even rearranging into a different shape all together, this couch transforms into a dining table. This is perfect for small spaces that cannot accommodate a dining set on a full time basis. In its more compact form, the Convertible Sofa by Julia Kononenko looks like a plain wooden chest. But when the lid is raised, it reveals lush cushions instead of an empty belly. The cushions can be removed to reveal comfy stools. When shut again, the top of the lid expands out to provide more table space for meals. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Convertible Furniture:** The trend towards furniture that serves multiple purposes and can be converted into other types of furniture presents innovation opportunities for designers to create new and unique products. - **Space-saving Furniture:** The demand for furniture that can be easily stored or used in small spaces presents an opportunity for designers to create unique and innovative solutions to this problem. - **Multifunctional Furniture:** The trend towards furniture that can serve a variety of purposes presents an opportunity for designers to create hybrid pieces that can be used in multiple ways, offering maximum versatility for consumers. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Industry:** The trend towards convertible, space-saving, and multifunctional furniture presents an opportunity for manufacturers to create new products that meet the changing needs of consumers. - **Interior Design Industry:** The trend towards convertible, space-saving, and multifunctional furniture presents an opportunity for interior designers to create unique and functional spaces that incorporate these innovative and versatile pieces. - **Real Estate Industry:** The trend towards convertible, space-saving, and multifunctional furniture presents an opportunity for real estate developers to create living spaces that are more flexible and adaptable to changing needs, making them more attractive to potential buyers or renters. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Eco-Sourced Cozy Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-couch.md) - [Cocoon-Like Multifunctional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usofa.md) - [Modular Coffee Table Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silky-sofa.md) - [Multifuntional Modular Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-table.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Space-Saving Convertible Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coddle-luke-sleeper-sofa.md) - [Compact Collapsing Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acordion-modular-sofa.md) - [Rolled-Up Wooden Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sofan.md) - [Playful Modular Kids Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twiny-sofa-system.md)
