# Asymmetrical Armchairs The One-Armed Chair from Mixture Furniture By Jessica Marcel | Published 2009-11-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/one-armed-chair References: [dwell](http://www.dwell.com/products/232rl-one-armed.html) & [mixturehome](http://www.mixturehome.com/product_details.php?id=2568) The One Armed Chair from San Diego-based Mixture Design may be asymmetrical, but that doesn’t mean it’s not attractive. A simple combination of [natural wood and canvas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/same-same) create an oddly interesting seat. I can’t come up with a reason you’d want to have a chair with [only one arm](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair), but it still looks cool. So maybe form wins over function with the One Armed Chair, but then again, two chairs can be combined to form a bench. Maybe the One Armed Chair is more functional than it appears at first glance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Asymmetrical Furniture:** Opportunity to design furniture that deviates from traditional symmetrical forms and offers a unique aesthetic appeal. - **Multi-purpose Seating:** Opportunity to create furniture pieces that can serve more than one function, such as combining two chairs to form a bench. - **Natural Materials:** Opportunity to utilize eco-friendly materials, such as wood and canvas, to create aesthetically pleasing furniture designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Designers can incorporate the trend of asymmetrical armchairs to bring fresh, unconventional designs to the furniture industry. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate asymmetrical armchairs into their projects to create a unique and interesting space. - **Eco-friendly Furniture:** The use of natural materials in asymmetrical armchair designs creates opportunities for eco-conscious furniture companies to appeal to consumers who prioritize sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chunky Cylindrical Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/umi-armchair.md) - [Quirky Postmodern Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ebba-armchair.md) - [Chic Single-Piece Plywood Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/void-lounge-chair.md) - [Versatile Dynamic Armchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dynamic-armchair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Artfully Balanced Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfway-serious.md) - [Geometric Flatpacked Wooden Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedia-tonda.md) - [Hollow Multipurpose Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tailor-armchair.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md)
