# Tethered Structure Tables 'On a String' Has an Apparent Fragility Despite a Substantial Stability By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-01-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/on-a-string References: [blog.leibal](http://blog.leibal.com/furniture/string-2/) & [okdesign.dk](http://okdesign.dk/vis_produkt?id=16) There are more ways to build a table than with a flat surface and four vertical legs fixed beneath each corner. 'On a String' demonstrates just how minimal you can make the supportive structure of such a piece, all the while maintaining sturdiness. OK Design has two models of the furnishing in a larger and a smaller size. It can be used effectively as a [kitchen table, a desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-cafe-table) or a platform to hold a broad range of objects and facilitate several different tasks. It probably best suits a [minimalist interior theme](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monumental-table) with its fine lines and frame and its thin tabletop. The option of black linoleum with black tubing or a white laminated surface with white tubing reinforces its clean modernist aesthetic. However, for a bit of fun, the 'On a String' table can be strengthened by [a cord of a different color](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in creating minimalist furniture designs that incorporate unconventional table structures. - **Multifunctional Tables:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in developing tables that can be used for various purposes and tasks. - **Customizable Table Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in offering tables that can be personalized with different colors of cords and surface materials. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in developing and producing furniture pieces with unconventional table structures and versatile functionality. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in incorporating minimalist furniture designs, like tethered structure tables, into interior themes. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in offering customizable table designs that allow consumers to personalize their furniture with different colors and materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Slender Geometric Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tong-side-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Skeletal Industrial Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landr-dining-and-conference-table.md) - [Minimal Wooden Webbed Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knot-stool.md) - [Bag-Friendly Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dtn-table.md) - [Bended Tubular Chair-Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wire-chair-concept.md) - [Impactful Industrial Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/to-steel-side-table.md) - [Compact Functional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookmarker-table.md) - [Hovering Illusion Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stilk.md)
